BACKGROUND: Taiwan is an island nation of the located approximately 90 miles east of China. The Republic of China was started on October 10, 1911 in China. In 1949 the free Chinese government of Chiang Kai-shek fled from China to escape the communist insurgents. China is currently communist and is called the "Peoples Republic of China" and is opposed to the free Chinese on Taiwan. The Republic of China on Taiwan is a free, democratic nation with the basic freedoms for its citizens that are expected of a democratic society. The government, and people, of Taiwan are friends of the United States of America. The population of Taiwan is 23 million people consisting of Chinese and indigenous local tribes. The major religions are: Buddhist, Taoist and Confucianism. The main language is Chinese Mandarin, Taiwanese and several tribal dialects. Brother Young first arrived on Taiwan in January 1973 while serving in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at C.C.K Air Force Base located in Taichung, Taiwan. While in the military on Taiwan God called him as a missionary to the Chinese people. |

MINISTRY: Our objective here on Taiwan is two-fold, Matthew 28:18-20. First. To seek the salvation of the souls of the Chinese people with the gospel message of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is accomplished through the preaching of the gospel and passing out tracts. Second. To disciple those who are saved in order to carry on the ministry, Acts 14:23 and Second Timothy 2:2. Our goal is to see the Victory Baptist Church become an indigenous church. To accomplish these objectives the Young Family started the Victory Baptist Church in Hua Lien during their current term. In the spirit of Romans 15:20, "Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation." The Victory Baptist Church was started in an area with no other churches of any denomination. Sunday morning services are conducted in Chinese Mandarin. Our Sunday evening services are conducted in Chinese and English in order to help those who desire to learn English. Our visitation and disciple programs are conducted on various times during the week. |
